Within names like Niclas Grönholm, Timmy Hansen and Oliver Eriksson, no one could expect that Viktor Kristensson would emerge victorious in the first event of the RallyX North weekend at the Tierp Arena, with the event as a whole being full of surprises from the younger side of the grid.
Amid the FC2 legion at Tierp, which will be common sight this year, Emil Sivesind brough Kjetil Larsen’s Volkswagen Polo RX that ran the Euro RX opener at Riga a week ago and impressed everybody, not only winning two of the three Qualifying heats, but also topping the table before the Semifinals. When you consider that those right behind Sivesind are Oliver Eriksson, Casper Jansson, Niclas Grönholm and Timmy Hansen, only to name a few, his feat gets even more impressive.
The first FC2 Semifinal had everybody fighting for space before the first corner, and when the five cars arrived there, Emil Naessen lost the brakes in the wet asphalt and went hard into the wall. Oliver Eriksson took the lead while a more inspired Romet Tsirna was chasing him, but Tsirna got behind Grönholm after the Joker Lap. Lukas Andersson wasn’t making any favors to Grönholm as he was the only one with the Joker to complete, and since Andersson’s situation was dire because of Grönholm and Tsirna behind, he decided to enjoy the clean air until the final lap, letting both pass after the Jokerand watching the three cars ahead of him qualify for the FC2 Final.
FC2 Semifinal 2 saw Timmy Hansen protecting his lead with tactics, not allowing an inch of a gap to Viktor Kristensson. With Adam Öhman losing contact to Jansson and the top 3 being really close to each other, only the Joker Laps could change things in a normal run, Timmy Hansen had a big gap to the opposition but slowed down massively near the finish, although it didn’t matter too much as he kept the lead and Jansson behind him, with Kristensson completing the top 3.
In the Final, Tsirna stalled and Jansson went straight to the barriers while Kristensson was in the lead and avoided the chaos behind him, as Hansen had mechanical issues due to the argy bargy with Niclas Grönholm and Oliver Eriksson. Despite Grönholm and Eriksson pushing hard and avoiding unnecessary contact, no one could reach Kristensson, who commanded the field until the line.
