The series of announcements from SRO at Spa-Francorchamps showed just meticulous changes in the GT World Challenge America for 2027, with only one venue change and a formar swap, along with certain date tweaks.
The major changes that GTWC America has for 2027 will be the return of Watkins Glen as it replaces Sebring, with the Florida venue leaving after having a spot in the schedule for six years, including this year’s edition. Watkins Glen, on the other hand, returns after leaving the series in 2022, meaning it will be the first time that the circuit will host a race under the new three hour format, curiously, The Glen is one of the few circuits that received events in all race formats used by SRO, from the 50 minute doubles of the Pirelli World Challenge to the double 90 minute races of GTWC America and the one they are about to host.
Along with the venue change, the eight hour race is moved from Indianapolis to the Circuit of the Americas, which is more geared towards the Intercontinental GT Challenge than to GTWC America, as the Texas 8 Hour is the third try to obtain success with an IGTC round in the United States.
Apart from this, the rest of the venues remain with the same spots in the schedule, including Indianapolis, with the date changes moving most of them to be held a week or two earlier than this year.
2027 GTWC America calendar:
04 April - Sonoma
09 May - Texas 8 Hour (with IGTC)
23 May - Watkins Glen
20 June - Road Atlanta
29 August - Road America
12 September - Barber
03 October - Indianapolis
