DXDT celebrates another GTWC America sweep at Barber

DXDT Racing
simply can’t stop winning in the FANATEC GT World Challenge America, with a pair of wins at Barber Motorsports Park for the No. 63 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R of Alec Udell and Tommy Milner, which brings the tally to eight in the season, with both skill and luck being factors the pair of triumphs.

The No. 63 DXDT Corvette went down the first corner in the lead while the No. 93 Racers Edge Acura went from second to fourth pretty quickly as the No. 91 Regulator Mercedes and the No. 99 Random Vandals BMW pressed and passed, with the No. 29 Turner BMW facing the wrong way due to early contact.

The No. 99 lost contact with the leaders, falling into the radar of the No. 28 ST Racing BMW as Bill Auberlen had the clear advantage over Conor Daly, but the top 4 remained in their positions until the pit stop time came. The order wasn’t changed after full service, but then the No. 99 easily overtook the No. 91 as Jeff Burton wouldn’t be able to match overall frontrunning pace, and with Kenton Koch making it easier than Varun Choksey and Zach Veach, the No. 99 started clocking a bunch of fast laps to close down on the No. 63.

With 20 minutes to go, Tommy Milner’s mirrors were full of Random Vandals BMW, but once he started countering Koch’s laps, the No. 99 Random Vandals BMW couldn’t pass the No. 63 DXDT Corvette for the win.

DXDT Racing also celebrated the Pro-Am Cup win with the No. 64 Corvette as Bryan Sellers capitalized on Jeff Burton’s lack of pace, which saw the No. 91 Regulator Mercedes fall to fourth in the class order.and ninth overall.

Race 2 had a BMW front row led by the No. 29 Turner entry with the No. 38 ST Racing and the No. 99 Random Vandals one. The BMW M4 GT3s dominated the first part of the race as the No. 88 AF Corse Ferrari and No. 32 GMG Porsche being the only ones capable of keeping a close following of the leaders.

The No. 38 stood longer to take benefits from Neil Verhagen, but when Samantha Tan got in, she was easily outpaced by Justin Rothberg in the No. 29, and Conor Daly was bringing the No. 99 closer to the leaders, but the problem was that he was bringing Alec Udell in the No. 63 DXDT Corvette with him, and both cars also surpassed the No. 38 and took off the opportunity to fight for the Pro-Am Cup lead from Tan.

The No. 99 quickly took the lead but since the No. 29 left a huge gap, the No. 63 came along, although not engaging in a serious battle like the one in the Pro-Am Cup, where Tan was looking for every gap available to pass Rothberg without success. The brief Safety Car period practially settled things in the Pro-Am Cup as Tan was passed by three Pro Cup cars and the No. 91 Regulator Mercedes, with Philip Ellis making the moves in the same Pro Cup cars that passed Tan and stealing the Pro-Am Cup lead from Rothberg.

With five minutes to go, the No. 99 still had the lead but had another thing that dramatically took it off the top position, which was a fuel flow issue. Daly limped until the pits to do a quick fill, but the loss of 11 positions was the price to pay for the fuel rig problem, which handed the first position for the No. 63 DXDT Corvette, and consequently the overall and Pro Cup wins, with the No. 91 Regulator Mercedes winning in the Pro-Am Cup as it finished behind the No. 28 ST Racing BMW on track.

Skeer and Adelson lead the Pro Cup table with 207 points, but Udell and Milner are right there to fight for the title with 200 points, with only eight hours of racing remaining in the series as the Indianapolis 8 Hour on 6 October, which also closes the curtains for the Intercontinental GT Challenge in 2024.
