Volland Racing joins Projekt E

While Austrian company STARD challenges time constraints to deliver the brand new machinery for the new Projekt E series, more squads confirm their plans to jump into electric rallycross, and the most recent addition is German outfit Volland Racing.

Volland Racing will face a new experience with its debut in electric rallycross, but they come with extensive credentials inside the sport, as its fleet of Audi A1 machines dictate the pace in the Super 1600 class, which is the entrance door for the road to World RX. While the front-wheel drive class will certainly remain in the ladder even after the introduction of electric series like Projekt E and the FIA eRX2, as there will be paths for petrol-powered and electric machines, with the World RX being the top step as mixed competition.

The idea for Volland Racing into joining Projekt E is mostly the same of the other two squads that announced their participation, Rallytechnology and Holten Motorsport, as they are looking into the future, with team owner Rudi Volland not only recognizing that electric machines may be the rallycross future, but also been keen to use Projekt E as a complementary platform for its drivers, as the series may serve as the next step for his drivers in Super 1600 instead of going to the Euro RX supercars and having to find a new team.

It isn’t clear how many cars Volland Racing will use, but their plans are more inclined to 2021, with a late appearance in 2020 being considered if the plans go ahead smoothly, racing at home in the Nürburgring RX.

The 2020 Projekt E calendar starts on 22nd and 23rd August at the Höljes RX double-header, followed by the Riga RX on 19th and 20th September, the Spa RX on 4th October and ending at the Nürburgring RX on 13th December.
