Citroën chooses Østberg for Projekt E debut

A few days ago, STARD and Citroën announced together that the C3 model will get an electric rallycross variation to compete in Projekt E, and the French manufacturer didn’t take long to look into its roster to choose Norwegian Mads Østberg to put competitive mileage in the C3 ERX.

One of the characteristics of the C3 ERX, along the STARD-built REVelution powertrain, is the fact that 80% of the components present in the C3 R5 rally car, in which the C3 ERX is based, are used in this electric transition, and Østberg is quite a nice choice for its debut, even if you consider that there’s the change of powertrain and the horsepower increase comparing the customer-oriented rally machine and the rallycross car.

Østberg is with Citroën since 2018 in what is actually a return to the French manufacturer, and since then he is actually devoting a lot of his competitive time to the C3 R5, and with five wins since he started driving the C3 R5, you can tell he knows the R5 machine dynamics really well, which should be adaptable to the ERX car. Add to it that his recent victories were this year in the grueling Rally Monte Carlo and Rally Sweden, and you can say he’s ready even if the weather throws something extra to the Projekt E competitors, which can happen at Höljes but isn’t a certain thing.

For the moment Østberg will be the only one with a different model when the Projekt E grid align at Höljes on 22nd and 23rd August, but customers can get the C3 ERX with STARD and its spare parts via the Citroën Racing Shop.
