Studio 397 has been working hard in what is its only focus right now, but Le Mans Ultimate was still missing a class that made the debut this year in the FIA World Endurance Championship, and with one DLC pack, the Motorsport Games title finally filled the gap as the LMGT3 class is finally a thing in the simulator, with an extra track to increase the 2024 roster.
The new class based in the absurdly popular GT3 platform appeared in the FIA WEC for the first time this year as the LMGTE spec was finally phased out in 2023 as it wasn’t a cost effective class to sustain anymore, with the World stage following a trend that was already a thing in the Asian Le Mans Series, appeared briefly in the European Le Mans Series and also replaced the GTLM class in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship.
But, while GT3 racing in other ACO sanctioned series worked as is, Balance of Perfomance aside, the LMGT3s has some variations to cater to FIA WEC, like slightly modified aero and torque sensors for real time monitoring. Also, LMGT3 is the first and only class in the ACO portfolio to have ABS, and Studio 397 worked hard in the ABS logic, with a set frequency translating from each wheel to cut the brakes once it hits a maximum slip threshold to avoid locking it up, then preventing any locking of the wheels, although finessing the brake pedal will be more productive to reduce speeds.
As for the cars, not all models are present in this DLC Pack 3 and in the December update, as the McLaren 720S LMGT3 Evo is the freebie with the update while the BMW M4 LMGT3, Ferrari 296 LMGT3 and the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 LMGT3.R are part of the paid pack, with no obligation of having the DLC to race against the existing LMGT3 field.
As for the track, Interlagos is included in the DLC Pack 3. The track returned to FIA WEC this year after a decade of absence, doing the Americas leg of the championship with the Circuit of the Americas, which is already in Le Mans Ultimate.
While LMGT3s, improved perfomance, ABS logic and tire temperature logic were the standouts of this update, multiple online functions were released too for RaceControl in partnership with SimGrid, like Online Championships and hosted servers, with an spectator mode and broadcaster overlays adding to the viewing experience. While the viewing features are free of cost, the hosted servers and Online Championships will be set behind paid subscriptions from the RaceControl Pro plan.
If you want to look the whole changelog, it is in Le Mans Ultimate’s Steam page, and if none of the released LMGT3s catches your curiosity, more models are already in development for future releases in 2025.
