While most of the calendar for RallyX is still based in Scandinavia with ocasional appearances in Latvia in recent years, the championship can’t be confined to the Nordic name or borders anymore, which was shown when it visited Estering this season, and RX Promotion announced ambitious plans to expand the competition and accomodate more markets.
What was initially the target was to expand the map of the original championship by going to the center and south of the European map, which meant Estering was just the first of many, but Andreas Eriksson’s cause actually wants to set foot in the region by having a southern championship while the north would be kept as is, which would compete for attention with the likes of FIA NEZ and CEZ.
RX Promotion had an interest in the central european market for quite some time, and with Rallycross France offering occasional attractions with international drivers doing more than one visit per year to face off the local competition, it is understandable that the organization wants to set a regional league there instead of a more logistically challenging trip from near the Arctic to the Mediterranean Sea.
It was also stated that the expansion wouldn’t need to be limited to Europe, as Olsbergs MSE has a long history in North America too, with Eriksson wanting at a certain point to expand the RallyX On Ice to the US and Canada, although the idea simply vanished along with the winter championship. Olsbergs MSE was present in Global Rallycross, Americas Rallycross and in the recently interrupted Nitrocross, being part of the Nitrocross team principals association and the supplier of the FC1-X and FC2 models for the Group E and NEXT EVO classes.
While RX Promotion explains their experience in rallycross would be helpful to adapt to differences in the markets they want to cover with a view to the future of the discipline, the end goal is a bigger thing, with the idea of possibly combining both European leagues into a single trophy or make it a World final with the best of each league, potentially including North America, which would follow the way that the Lamborghini Super Trofeo and Ferrari Challenge do things, which would also help bring talent being gathered together as the best of the best is scattered across different championships with different philosophies.
While the original RallyX will certainly expand to Central Europe in 2025, there is no timeframe now for when the southern league would start, and investors need to be found to expand RallyX to North America.
