Mustang delivery to Assetto Corsa Competizione

While many imagined that KUNOS Simulazioni would simply stop taking care of Assetto Corsa Competizione once the Nordschleife was released, the Italian developer proved they still have some surprises in their box by delivering the latest version of the Ford Mustang GT3, one of the latest models of the class to hit the road.

Unlike the Nordschleife and other major packs that had a lot of buzz months before the release date, the Ford Mustang was squeezed into ACC’s car list out of nowhere, and to the big surprise of many, it received the same treatment of the McLaren 720S GT3 and it was released for free, with the player just needing to update the game to have it available. This marked the first time the new Mustang GT3 was available officially for a sim racing title.

The Ford Mustang GT3 of today is based in the S650 variation of the Mustang road going car, or more specifically the Mustang Dark Horse performance version, and is built by Multimatic, which isn’t their GT3 project but it’s their return since 2007, when they built the Ford Mustang FR500 GT3, while Matech took charge of building a GT3 version of the Ford GT, both being last used in SRO competitions during the 2011 Blancpain Endurance Series season by Marc VDS, which today is on the other side of the fence competing as Boutsen VDS with Mercedes machinery.

The current Mustang GT3 boasts a 5.4 litre Coyote V8 engine, while M-Sport was brought along for their second GT3 project, being the firm behind the two generations of the Bentley Continental GT3. While Multimatic Motorsports and Proton Competition were already with their examples in action in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship, Dinamic GT was set to campaign a pair of Mustangs but elected to cancel the program, which brought Proton Competition to FANATEC GT World Challenge Europe as an emergency plan with an Endurance Cup entry for former Audi Sport drivers Christopher Mies and Frederic Vervisch along with former Porsche boy Dennis Olsen, ending in a respectable tenth position in the debut at Paul Ricard.

There are at least two other models that can be included in ACC, which are the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo that also debuted in GTWC Europe this year, and the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R, which has no car set for GTWC Europe, but debuted in SRO competitions during the second weekend of the FANATEC GT World Challenge America at Sebring, which makes both models eligible on licensing terms.

With KUNOS Simulazioni having the habit of working on a single title at a time, which left Assetto Corsa for the community to tinker, it is unclear at which point development will cease for Assetto Corsa Competizione, as they would have at most the 2024 GTWC Europe roster to deliver before working full time on Assetto Corsa EVO.
