After so
many years with only Reiter Engineering
taking care of Lamborghini’s motorsport activities, being them with
Murcielagos, Diablos and Gallardos, finally the Italian manufacturer put its
trump card on the table. The Huracán GT3
was finally revealed at its home ground, in a striking light green color.
As it was
revealed last year, the Huracán GT3 was an expected step to take by
Lamborghini, but only after the Super Trofeo version of the car was
consolidated in the eyes of drivers, teams and general public.
Even though
aerodynamics were made in partnership with Dallara, the rest of the Huracán GT3
is more like a properly enhanced heritage of its previous cars, like the
monstrous 5.2-litre V10 engine under the hood, developing more than 600 hp.
And as the
car was revealed, the chosen ones to initially compete and help in development
of the Huracán GT3 were present. Squadra
Corse, Lamborghini’s motorsport division, takes care of development of the
car, and Grässer Racing Team and JLOC will be in the track with the first
four units of the new GT3 contender, in the Blancpain Endurance Series and Super
GT, respectively.
The drivers
department will have initially eight drivers with the Huracán. Factory drivers Fabio
Babini and Adrian Zaugg will drive one of the two Grässer machines alongside
Mirko Bortolotti, while the other car will feature a 100% Squadra Corse Junior Team lineup, with Italian Giovanni Venturini,
Dutchman Jeroen Mul and rising American star Andrew Palmer. Milos Pavlovic and
Edoardo Piscopo were named the official Squadra Corse test drivers, involved in
testing and supporting teams that will race the Huracán GT3 worldwide.
OWNER NOTE:
Expectations
high on a future battle between this Huracán beast and the Reiter Gallardo
R-EX. It’s always interesting to see how the competition goes between two
models of the same manufacturer, although not essentially they are manufacturer
prepared cars, like the Chevy duel between the Callaway Corvette Z06.R and the
SaReNi Camaro on ADAC GT Masters.
Let’s wait
and see how it can develop if it happens.
