Andersson prevails in Saturday event at Älvsbyn

The second visit to Sweden for RallyX North in 2026 has pretty low grid numbers but plenty of action on track, with Lukas Andersson beating the official Olsbergs MSE fleet to win the Saturday event in what can be considered OMSE’s home track in Älvsbyn.

The Saturday event was marking some returns to action as Kevin Eriksson went back to driving duties in the third Olsbergs MSE FC2, while Mats Öhman was joining Adam Öhman on track, but instead of an FC2, he was using the recently acquired Volkswagen Polo KMS 601 RX, one of the only units not in possession of Kristoffersson Motorsport.

The knowledge that both Erikssons have of Älvsbyn and of the FC2 paid off as Oliver led Kevin in the intermediate standings, with both also sharing all heat victories, and trailing them were Romet Tsirna and Lukas Andersson, while Emil Naessen and Tobias Daarbak were in kind of a limbo. Adam Öhman’s run got ruined by a massive roll in the second heat while Mats Öhman was only able to start in the third heat, though he was competitive with the FC2s.

Semifinal 1 had Öhman outpacing everybody before Turn 1, but Oliver Eriksson had other plans with an early Joker that set his car behind Tsirna and Naessen. Öhman eventually was cornered and gave way to everybody while Naessen became the prey until he went to the Joker, and with Tsirna, Eriksson and Naessen secure in the Final, the order remained unchanged until the line.

Semifinal 2 was more like a formality, being valid just to decide the grid positions for the Final, and while Daarbak went for an early Joker, Kevin Eriksson decided to chase Andersson. Pressure made Andersson open the door for Eriksson, and consistency was playing his part until a broken steering in the final lap reinstated Andersson back in the lead and gave him the win, with Daarbak in second and Kevin Eriksson not finishing the race.

The Final saw Andersson protecting the lead from Tsirna at all costs, with the Estonian leading Naessen and Daarbak into an early Joker strategy. Despite the times when Andersson would leave gaps in his line, the Erikssons couldn’t capitalize, with Kevin Eriksson falling behind Tsirna in fourth and Oliver Eriksson being boxed behind them and recovering the third place before the line, but being too far to attack race winner Andersson and runner-up Tsirna.
