It is almost 40 years from the 1990s decade, but some things are remembered and treasured to this day, and this includes the two cars that Supernova Games Studios brought to Assetto Corsa Rally as the rally simulator is now in the version 0.4, with more things going on than just the new content and some inclusions to what is already there.
Starting with the cars, Subaru debuts in ACR with a bang and some pops, with the Impreza S3 from 1993 being the first step of the Japanese automaker in the simulator, being also the first Japanese car in it. You can’t talk about Subaru Impreza in WRC without Colin McRae, and if you remember the phrase “if in doubt, flat out”, is in part because of the combination of McRae and the Impreza S3, which gave his World title in 1995. A combination of low weight, good weight distribution and a low center of gravity were topped by its active differential, which got better past 1993, making the Impreza S3 a nimble machine that could be thrown through the corners in the right hands.
The other machine in this update came around the time that the Impreza S3 was leaving the scene in its original form, as the Peugeot 306 II Maxi is the first one from the F2 Kit Car regulations to be present in ACR, and this spec is very well known because the aspirated 2 litre, front wheel drive demons inside this regulation were so impressive in tarmac that they were a menace to the World Rally Car regulated machinery, and with Gilles Panizzi getting overall podiums at the Rally Catalunya and the Tour de Course right in 1997, the later part of the regulation’s life cycle would eventually attract the ire of the WRC contenders due to how the front wheel drive kit cars were sometimes even outpacing the turbo four wheel drive fleet on normal roads.
While no new locations were included in the version 0.4, Supernova brought more scenarios to existing locations, with the Rally Alsace and Rally Wales now having snow as an available weather condition, with both snow accumulation on the roads and precipitation being fully included. Be aware that winter and snow tires will be brought later, but nothing will stop you from trying to keep the car on the road with the original tarmac and gravel tires.
There were a bunch of other inclusions and fixes in this update and they are included in the changelog in Assetto Corsa Rally’s Steam page, and those with ACR will have immediate access to the update once it is downloaded and installed.
