New Mercedes GT3 car almost ready

Apparently those at Mercedes AMG couldn't contain the enthusiasm with the next GT3 car to come and already revealed some things about the car, still in prototype form and with camo livery to cover the more important details.

According to the images that the manufacturer released, there is still a good reason to keep the new GT3 as a prototype, as its base road car, the new Mercedes AMG GT Black Series, is also under extensive testing, being also a prototype. The idea is that the new Black Series will be the most extreme version of the model, with as much of its development being transferred into the GT3 model, as long as the regulations allow.

Testing is underway at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with other tracks being visited, like Bilster Berg, Portimão and Monteblaco, which is a testament on how the manufacturer wants both cars to work well in any scenario possible. While details under the hood are scarce, the idea is that the V8 will stay, but it will be a new unit, built to have better torque and improved reliability.

While the current Mercedes AMG GT3 Evo is still a competitive car, in special under LMGT3 regulations, it is becoming clear that the model is showing its age, since it’s six years of its launch, and the only car that’s older than it, the Lexus RC F GT3, is also on the way once the GR GT3 is ready to race, which has an interesting relationship with the current AMG GT3 Evo.

Further details on the specs will be announced at a later date, probably closer to the launch day, or only when it is officially finalized.
