All roads lead to rallycross in Jakarta

One of the promises that the FIA did once the new structure for the top of the rallycross ladder went public was that, along with the FIA European Rallycross Championship being back to the top of the pile, an one-off rallycross will take place outside Europe to preserve the global status that the discipline had until 2025, even though a championship is no more in place. Now, the first step for the FIA Rallycross World Cup was taken, which is finding a place for it, leading to another trip to Asia.

During the World RX era, IMG was able to put the championship in Abu Dhabi, while under the Rallycross Promoter command, it visited Hong Kong. This time, instead of the Middle East or the Far East, rallycross will take place in Southeast Asia, as Jakarta was selected to be the host city of the RX World Cup. Indonesia has some tradition with FIA sanctioned events, having hosted the World Rally Championship and being one of the destinations for Formula E at the moment.

By the way, the track for the RX World Cup will be located exactly where the Formula E circuit sits at, at the Ancol district, and it is highly likely that it will follow the model from the Hong Kong RX event, with a view to the sea and sand and dirt being brought for the occasion, instead of the common practice of making use of whatever unsealed surfaces the terrain has. This will be made in partnership with SARGA.CO, a well known entertainment company in Indonesia, and the promise is to deliver coverage to not only the local audience, but to the whole World, so it is expected that the RX World Cup will be on YouTube like the Euro RX season will be.

As with previous events outside Europe, only the top class will be taking part of the RX World Cup, with the event being dedicated to the Euro RX supercars, with the common event format being unchanged for the occasion.

The FIA Rallycross World Cup is scheduled for 5 and 6 December, almost three months apart from the Euro RX season finale at Lousada, which will be held on 13 September, as time is needed for customs and logistic operations.
