KUNOS Simulazioni is putting Assetto Corsa EVO on the halfway point of its early access program, but while bits and pieces of the version 0.5 are still coming out, some discussions about the long term plans for the sim racing title, and thinking about the greater good, one of the biggest changes was the removal of the Career Mode that was in development as a separate mode within it, with the elements that form also leaving the title.
The news came on the official Discord server, where it was announced that after careful thinking, the Career Mode and the in-game XP and economy system were chosen to be on the chopping block, which was justified by the fact that KUNOS Simulazioni will have more time to put more effort into other aspects that are more meaningful in the simulator, like the handling, general single player experience, multiplayer, modding and the freeroam that remains as the spotlight feature.
The Career Mode was at the forefront of the simulator in the early versions, but the need for constant connection in order to link it to multiplayer features didn’t go down well with those wanting the same sandbox experience of the original Assetto Corsa, which made the studio separate the Career Mode for those wanting these aspects in place, while the sandbox portion got an Open Mode where all cars were available and economy and XP didn’t have an influence.
While the Career Mode is on the way out, the Driving Academy is staying, despite the current state where it wasn’t influential inside ACEVO, but the announcement mentions a rework on it to make it work more like a learning tool instead of being just a simple time trial.
At the moment, there is no estimated date for the version 0.5, as well for the removal of the Career Mode, but some content was already revealed, as the Toyota Corolla AE86 and the BMW M2 as the first new cars, while Watkins Glen adds to the circuits list. UI and performance improvements are coming along with the new content.
