The double finale of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, which will also close the FIA Euro RX1 Championship, will have a format change that will mix both grids, as Hansen World RX Team is added to the list of absences from the Istanbul Park event, which already had Juha Rytkönen.
Hansen WRXT was already in a difficult position when they lost Red Bull backing a week before the KymiRing RX, only to be saved midweek by Volvo Construction Equipment and the CE Dealer Team, but for Istanbul, things were different and the family team get a way to support their weekend in Türkiye, giving a premature end to their World RX campaign.
The World RX grid already lost Anthony Pelfrene after Lousada, then Patrick O'Donovan before KymiRing, and Timmy and Kevin Hansen join Rytkönen in the losses before Istanbul, meaning the World RX grid will have four entries, in this case the two cars that each Kristoffersson Motorsport and CE Dealer Team have.
With the grid going this low and the Euro RX1 season ending on the Saturday, an emergency measure was taken as World RX and Euro RX1 will compete in mixed grid while counting for their respective championships.
The idea isn't new as it was used during the 2014 and 2015 before the championships split into their own events entirely, but there's a catch in the way that things will be done at Istanbul, as Rounds 5 and 6 will see different rules applied.
As Round 5 will also count for Euro RX1, Qualifying will have mixed grids but the finals will be split according to the competition, with the World RX going to the Final while Euro RX1 will have Semifinals and Final on 20 September.
On Round 6, set for 21 September, which counts only for the World RX, the Euro RX1 competitors will be treated as wildcard entries, not scoring points for the championship but will retain their positions in the event.
Euro RX1 regulars Yury Belevskiy, Nils Volland, Damian Litwinowicz, René Münnich, Mandie August and Mika Liimatainen will be joined by one-off entries from Joni Turpeinen, Attila Mózer, Márk Mózer and Tamás Kárai.
