Road Atlanta included in the 2026 GTWC America calendar

2026 will be a year of small but meaningful changes in GT World Challenge America, which has a full calendar confirmed as the next year will see most of its venues stay, with only one circuit being replaced while the incoming one traces back deep into World Challenge history.

There were two dates that were confirmed but had no venue attached to them, with both being at the middle of the season. While Road America, which will host the next round of the 2025 calendar, was confirmed to be staying, with a date change putting it in late August instead of the middle point of the month, Virginia International Raceway received the axe from SRO, with the round that marks the halfway of the season moving to Road Atlanta, with the date moving to mid June instead of mid July.

While Road Atlanta technically is a debutant in GT World Challenge America transitioned to full SRO promotion, if Pirelli World Challenge history enters in question, it will be the first visit to Road Atlanta since 2011, when none of the classes had an international ruleset attached to them. Curiously, it was the first year with Pirelli as the only tire supplier and also the first year with slick tires, while the calendar had double headers and single races, with the 31 lap multiclass race being won by Johnny O’Connell in his No. 3 Cadillac CTS-V.

While the single race format will remain from 2011, the three hour endurance format will be a totally different beast from the lap based one, with all races except the Indianapolis 8 Hour moving from their double 90 minute format on Saturday and Sunday, which technically doesn’t change too much in the operations during the race, although the attitude to face the weekend might see a change with only one race on Sunday to tackle.
