Kristoffersson leads KMS 1-2 at Nyirád RX

The FIA World Rallycross Championship visit to Nyirád was under bright sunlight, a contrast to the wet chaos that was Höljes, but Johan Kristoffersson made sure to continue his winning ways, conquering the second one in 2025 with flawless effort while bringing a fast Ole Christian Veiby to complete a 1-2 finish for Kristoffersson Motorsport.

Johan Kristoffersson shone is all aspects during Qualifying, top all Heats and consequently the intermediate table, while Niclas Grönholm was the only non-KMS driver that showed a hint of competitiveness against the Swedish, and Ole Christian Veiby put a good show to appear in third. However, the big fact was Patrick O’Donovan putting the Team RX Racing Peugeot 208 WRX in fourth, with sheer grit powering him as his bold driving compensated for the disadvantage that the supercars had over the RX1es due to the extra weight they were carrying, something that Juha Rytkönen was unable to replicate, as he was crushed to the bottom of the table, behind the Hansen WRXT drivers and Klara Andersson.

Semifinal 1 had the KMS Volkswagen Polos in front of the Hansen WRXT Peugeots, so team play would be massive, with Timmy Hansen ripping one of Veiby’s door to show he was there and the Norwegian was defending himself and Kristoffersson. The KMS drivers had no difficulties to keep the 1-2 finish, while Timmy Hansen was given the preference at the Joker merge, beating Kevin Hansen in the process.

The second Semifinal saw O’Donovan get trapped by the CEDT PWRs, passed by Rytkönen and spinning a second later, which made the race a mere formality for grid positions in the Final, While Rytkönen closed down on the CEDT PWRs, he didn’t make a move to take Andersson’s positions, which essentially cemented Grönholm’s victory too.

The Final had the KMS and CEDT cars side by side, and Veiby basically closed the door to the whole field to keep second place, sending Grönholm to the bottom of the order and giving a cushion for Kristoffersson. With the KMS cars having the position and pace to mount a solid defense, Kristoffersson had the gap to approach it calmly and just confirm the win, with Veiby coming home in second while Timmy Hansen focused more in defending the third place from Klara Andersson.
