The Latvian round of the 2025 RallyX North calendar, which will be fourth weekend of RallyX Euro, will have a grid increase as two drivers confirmed their returns to action, with Filip Thorén setting his sights for a full time campaign in the competition, while Janis Baumanis will hit the track once again for his home event.
Thorén’s program will be a repeat of 2024 as he will drive again the Volkswagen Polo RX from Hedströms Motorsport, with a new differential that will help setting up the car to his driving style. The Swedish driver got near the podium in the second Tierp event last season, and considering that Kristoffersson Motorsport ran over everybody to test their Volkswagen Polo KMS 601 RX cars, the fourth place was a strong result.
As for Baumanis, his appearance at Bikernieki looks more like an one-off at home rather than a full commitment, as the double Euro RX runner-up is out of competition since his 2023 Euro RX campaign with his own Team Latvia, which had support from YellowSquad for his Peugeot 208 WRX. With other commitments taking all his remaining time, he admitted he might not be able to appear in any other rounds, although he considered racing at the Estering season finale as he likes the track a lot.
Baumanis affirmed that he was taking a look at the Montalegre round, where he even interacted with the virtual crowd in the YouTube chat, and this left a positive impression on him.
The whole RallyX North season starts at Bikernieki on 9 and 10 May, two weeks after the second RallyX South and RallyX Euro round at Valkenswaard, which will be held on 26 and 27 April.
