JMR Corvette program is ready

It was made known by the announcement of the GT World Challenge Asia entry list that a surprise will come from the Johor royalty, and the Princes Jeffri and Abu Bakar Ibrahim didn’t disappoint as the Johor Motorsport Racing campaign will feature a pair of Corvettes in place of the Mercedes machinery used until last year.

With the pair of Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs in their garage, Johor Motorsport Racing becomes the first team to compete a full season in the Asian continent with the new Corvette, right after ending their partnership with Triple Eight as their assisting team, and eventually their relationship with Mercedes. While Corvette machinery still appears over the years in the Asian race tracks, they are previous creations from Callaway Competition, with Dijon Racing having the C6-based Z06 GT3.R and more recently Bingo Racing using their Callaway Corvette C7-GT3R, which is set to make a comeback in the SRO Japan Cup.

With the C8-based Z06 GT3.R having only appeared in the FIA WEC 6 Hours of Fuji with TF Sport, thus subject to the LMGT3 rules and Balance of Performance, the JMR Corvettes stay in a cloud of mistery as the model still needs to expands its reach around the globe, with Steller Motorsport set to race in GT World Challenge Europe and British GT.

JMR didn’t make any concessions when choosing the driver lineups this season. While Jeffri and Abu Bakar will still race in separate cars, their team mates were well chosen, as Silver-rated Jeffri will have Corvette factory driver Alexander Sims and the Bronze-rated Abu Bakar will have Jordan Love, who was part of the Mercedes roster until last season and even got alongside Sims and Jeffri in their 24 Hours of Spa appearance in 2024, which the team failed to complete.

Outside the GT World Challenge Asia commitments, JMR will visit Spa-Francorchamps in two occasions, with an appearance in the International GT Open scheduled for May and a return to tackle the Crowdstrike 24 Hours of Spa in June, although it isn’t known if both Corvettes will make the trip to Europe and how the lineup will be set for it.
