It was a timid announcement from the Team 5ZIGEN, but it was one that keeps a smile in the faces of the fans, because the wheel manufacturer will keep a team in GT World Challenge Asia, and more importantly, they will keep the car that gave them a win last season and which makes everybody cheer for them.
And yes, that Nissan GT-R GT3 isn’t going anywhere, keeping their Silver-Am classification as team ace Yu Kanamaru stays in the cockpit of the GT-R, though Hirobon leaves the Bronze rated slot to Motoki, who was present in the BINGO Racing Corvette in the Japan Cup as it transitioned from the Pro-Am Cup to the Am Cup mid season, achieving a class win at the end of the season with regular driver Shinji Takei, who was the runner-up finisher in the overall GT3 standings.
While the No. 500 Nissan GT-R is quite an old car, given that the last time the model was updated was in 2017, when mostly aero updates made it more nimble than the 2013 spec to overcome handling disadvantages on twisty circuits, when all conditions are in place, it is really hard to beat it, like when Kanamaru held the lead for the rest of the Suzuka Race 1 last year against a persistent Laurin Heinrich that would be crowned IMSA Sportscar Championship GTD winner later in the year.
The 2025 GT World Challenge Asia season will start on 12 and 13 April at Sepang, in Malaysia, going to five different countries, which includes two rounds in Japan.
