World RX is looking for a new promoter

After ending the 2024 season with an emergency plan that went really well in Türkiye, the FIA World Rallycross Championship will need some organization once again, as the FIA launched a tender for a new promoter to take over the competition in 2025, with Rallycross Promoter being on the way out.

Rallycross Promoter, or more especifically, Red Bull Media House, has been in control of the promotional side of the World RX since 2021, when IMG left the competition after being in charge since its start in 2014, also taking care of Euro RX and the other support classes. While RXP´successfully brought electric cars to the competition with the RX1e spec, in partnership with KREISEL Electric, their tenure was marked by worrying grid numbers that would rarely go to 10 cars in the World stage, along with some other problems faced along the way.

It managed to offer a proper calendar during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, with only Hell being missed in their debut season as promoters, although the loss of the Lohéac circuit in France would be considered a serious hit. The 2023 season would raise questions about the new electric concept as a fire broke out at Lydden Hill, destroying cars and equipment from newcomers Special ONE Racing, a case that is still under investigation. The result was that the World RX lost three rounds due to safety concerns and had to make use of the Zeroid X1 RX2e to complete the season in South Aftica and Hong Kong.

The 2024 season saw a return of the combustion engines, but with synthetic fuel, in what was dubbed the Battle of Technologies, as RX1es and supercars would fight for supremacy, but even this wasn’t enough to raise the grid numbers in a significant manner. Difficulties to confirm the season finale also marked the year, with Australia being initially announced but then dropped, and even an alternative in China wouldn’t go ahead, and in the eleventh hour, a return to the Istanbul Park was confirmed to close the curtains.

The key points of the tender remain the same for the FIA, like expansion to Asia and North America, more fan engagement and continuation of the Battle of Technologies concept. With the 2025 calendar already decided and starting in late January at Trois-Rivières, in Canada, the FIA is trying to work as immediately as possible to secure the promoter, with all candidates having only a week to register interest.
