Rather than the streets never forget, it was more like Raffaele Marciello never forgets the streets as his bid for a second win at the Circuito da Guia in Macau started with a Qualifying Race win in the FIA GT World Cup for the No. 1 TORO Racing BMW M4 GT3, with the Bavarian manufacturer showing its power as Dries Vanthoor kept the winner honest in the No. 32 WRT BMW M4 GT3.
BMWs were dominating the front, but Dries Vanthoor wasn’t too fond of staying behind Raffele Marciello and passed before Mandarin on Lap 1, only to receive the counter attack at Lisboa, restablishing the current winner in the lead.
Marciello and Vanthoor were in their own battle as Antonio Fuoco was busier defending from Maro Engel than working on a way to attack the BMWs ahead. With 3 laps to go, Vanthoor did the best lap of the race and kept the gap within less than a second, something quite difficult to do at the Circuito da Guia, but Marciello wouldn’t sit still and replied in the next lap to keep the Belgian at bay.
In the Final Lap, Vanthoor tried one last strike to reduce gap and prepare a desperate move, but Marciello’s acceleration at Fisherman’s was simply unmatched during the whole race, beating all hopes that Vanthoor had and securing the victory. Antonio Fuoco did the defensive job well against Maro Engel and secured the last step of the podium.
