Türkiye closes 2024 World RX season

From Australia to China and now to Türkiye, the FIA World Rallycross Championship appears to have finally found the place for the 2024 season finale while checking the box of the visit to Asia, as the Istanbul Park will host the ninth round of the competition.

Australia was initially in the plans but difficulties to settle things with the local promoters made RX Promoter back off and turn the attention to China, as a way to capitalize in what was a good Hong Kong RX last year, but even this plan failed, with the signs that there would be no trip to the Far East appearing at the Montalegre RX paddock, while Türkiye appeared in the rumor mill a few days later.

This announcement follows a series of inclusions for the 2025 calendar, that will se Trois-Rivières kick off the show with an ice race in late January, with KymiRing and Lousada also joining in while Coventry is still in the negotiation process, and since RXP has remained quiet about the end of the 2024 season, it raised doubts on whether the final round would take place with a trip to Canada just around the corner.

Istanbul Park held the World RX in 2014 and 2015, being also part of its history by being the first FIA Grade 1 circuit to host a World RX event. Curiously, Istanbul Park is a circuit that isn't in the winning path of the current champion and points leader Johan Kristoffersson, with Andreas Bakkerud and Timmy Hansen winning the two editions of the Istanbul RX, while Kristoffersson only got a third place finish in the 2015 edition, the only one in which he competed.

With the date set for 9 and 10 November, it is expected that the track layout will be announced soon, as it will count with the help of Volvo Construction Equipment to be built, which might not resemble the first layout that was located in the final sector of the GP circuit, with the infield section covered in dirt while keeping the original asphalt intact.
