Nitrocross cuts off 2024/25 season

Apparently everything was going alright for Nitrocross with four rounds in two different venues being held and a good title battled developing little by little, but Thrill One Sports & Entertainment announced in a rather surprising manner that the remainder of the current season won’t be held.

This was the third season for the FirstCorner FC1-X as the car used for the top class, Group E, in a season that would be more concentrated in American soil than any other, with not even Canada being featured in the calenar after the visits to Calgary and Trois-Rivières for ice races. Four teams were represented in the grid, with Dreyer & Reinbold JC striking a manufacturer deal with Dodge to see their cars take the shape of the Hornet R/T models, which even included a full season in the top class for Lia Block, daughter of the late Ken Block.

The current season saw also the US debut of the FirstCorner FC2 for the now called NEXT EVO class, as the junior championship would be the main competition of the car that would be a new life for the OMSE Supercar Lites chassis, with slightly less power than a regular rallycross supercar but coupled with a puss-to-pass button like the Group E’s FC1-Xs. NEXT EVO 24-25 also marked the return to real life action for Global Rallycross ace Mitchell DeJong, who used to wheel Honda Civic RXs for Olsbergs MSE but stopped after the GRC demise and focused totally on sim racing, where he is a Porsche factory driver.

With the cancellation of the rest of the season, the rounds at Firebird Motorsport Park in Phoenix, Marine Stadium in Miami and at the Nitrodrome were all scrapped, and while the initially agreed venues were totally scrapped, Thrill One is seeking alternatives to see the championship staying active in the future, with similar position also coming from the team association that involves all Group E and NEXT EVO squads in action, though the displeasure showed in their joint statement might suggest that Thrill One would be one of the parties with which they would discuss the future of the competition.
