2025 World RX calendar announced

While everybody waits for the trip to Istanbul Park to conclude the current season of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, the path to the next one was already prepared as the 2025 season calendar was announced almost in full this week.

There is an increase in the number of locations to be visited in the 2025 with only one absence compared to 2024, as Mettet doesn’t appear in the list, with World RX skipping Belgium again after doing it in 2023, although that only happened due to the RX1es not being allowed to race while the support package made the travel to Mettet.

Along with Höljes, Nyirád and Istanbul Park, Portugal stays in the calendar but moves to Lousada instead of staying at Montalegre, and with this, Trois-Rivières, KymiRing and the streets of Coventry make the numbers while again a season finale in Australia is in the plans at an unconfirmed venue. While this season might be the longest as it covers from January to November, it will do so with two big pauses due to the logistic challenges that are part of its overseas rounds as World RX returns to two rounds outside Europe as the 2024 season will technically host only one round, given the fact that the Istanbul Park is located in the Asian part of the Turkish city.

The initial challenge of the season will be around its newest concept, with the teams having from 11 November, when the 2024 season closes in Türkiye, to 22 January to move to Canada, as Trois-Rivières is the first host with an ice race that will see the competitors pass through known roads in unknown conditions, as the World RX held sessions in freezing conditions twice, and this was the closest the championship ever had to an ice race.

After that, the European portion will be held earlier and in a shorter interval compared to previous seasons, with Nyirád being the next stop in April, while Lousada is the only round in May and Coventry opens June, which is followed by KymiRing. Höljes’ Magic Weekend and Istanbul Park will be the rounds in July and then another long pause to late November to go to Australia.

With an earlier season start, it is expected that the window to register full time or part time entries will be held during the remainder of 2024, though the announcement wasn’t made yet.
