KymiRing included in the 2025 World RX calendar

Just some days after announcing the change of the Portuguese round from Montalegre to Lousada, the FIA World Rallycross Championship has another venue confirmed for the 2025 schedule as the KymiRing is the host to the return of the competition to Finnish lands.

The last World RX event held in Finland dates back to 2020 at Kouvola, which is the neighbor city of where the KymiRing is located, with current drivers Johan Kristoffersson and Niclas Grönholm being the winners, and before that the Tykkimäki was one of the twelve original circuits when the World RX debuted in 2014.

The KymiRing was opened for competitions in 2019, but with the construction taking a lot of time to be concluded, the circuit lost some big events due to the facilities not being up to standard, like the MotoGP, the MXGP and Nitrocross in its global stage.

The initial project was that the circuit would have a semi-dedicated rallycross track along the main straight, and although a slightly revised version is shown in the project images, it never came to reality, to a point that there is a motocross track that is almost in the area that would be dedicated to the rallycross track. It isn’t unimaginable that Volvo Construction Equipment will take the job of making the rallycross track as they were contracted by RX Promoter to work on the tracks that host the World RX and its support schedule, though this might be the biggest of all their works.

For the moment there is no confirmed date for the KymiRing RX.
