Turpeinen gets RallyX crown as Hedström wins Estering Sunday event

Entertainment was the name of the game in the decisive round of the 2024 RallyX season at Estering, and with no favorite standing out and everybody having to barge their way to the victory, Peter Hedström had the last laugh on track while a 15 years old Joni Turpeinen had to deal with the reality of leaving the Rallicross-SM in Finland to become a RallyX champion, and the youngest driver to do so, beating Oliver Solberg.

Contrary to Saturday, Robin Larsson was a victim of the high level of contact during the Heats, which saw him advance to the Semifinals with a ninth place and only one top time in Q2. No one was totally consistent out there, which allowed Joni Turpeinen to top the table with Peter Hedström and Martin Enlund following him closely, while René Münnich had his redemption and got fourth place.

Semifinal 1 had Turpeinen blocking the way while the pursuit pack was led by Linnemann, and they remained in this cat and mouse situation until Lap 3, when Larsson went first to the Joker and outpaced Enlund, closing down to pass Linnemann on the Final Lap but being denied of the win by 0.154 seconds as Turpeinen replied with equal pace as they were closer to the finish.

Semifinal 2 had Hedström outsmarting Filip Martinsson and Münnich to protect the lead. They remained in the train without taking risks as Tamm wasn't close enough, keeping the positions as they were in the first corner of Lap 1.

The last Final of the 2024 season was stacked with talent, and Larsson was the first one out of contention as the outside move backfired on him, leaving Hedström to lead and deal with Martinsson as the rest of the field went for early Jokers. Linnemann was furiously approaching the top two and had Martinsson in his sight, passing the Renault Clio RX before the line but failing to reach Hedström's Peugeot 208 WRX.
