Linnemann beats Eriksson in RallyX Saturday at Nysum

Home factor is something that is sometimes a decisive factor in racing, but this goes alongside the experience as various other aspects, and Ulrik Linnemann presented one of his best performances in a place where he knows all the best ways to succeed, beating an inspired Oliver Eriksson in the first event of the RallyX double header at Nysum.
 
Ulrik Linnemann proved again that if his Volkswagen Polo RX can stay in one piece, he is winning material, as two of the three Heats were won in convincing fashion by the home driver, with Filip Martinsson, Stefan Kristensson and Oliver Eriksson following him, while Martin Enlund and Joni Turpeinen showed great runs with Mats Öhman but stood further down the table.
 
Semifinal 1 had a rocket start from Linnemann that almost went to waste as he slid too much to the right at Turn 1, so he had Enlund all over him with pace to follow and pass if a mistake appears. Kristensson covered the third place with an early Joker and was looking for the undercut once the top two went to the Joker Lap, and with a problem slowing down Linnemann, Enlund took the lead to never let go while Linnemann held the second place to the line despite the problems.
 
The Semifinal 2 had a strong grid in front, but with everybody opting to stay clear, Eriksson took the lead with Turpeinen following him and bringing Martinsson to the party. All cars were pretty unstable in the session, but Martinsson was struggling more and changed priority to defend from Öhman while Eriksson was opening the gap to Turpeinen, keeping the positions unchanged until the finish while Öhman had the third place for him as Martinsson stopped in the final lap due to mechanical problems.
 
Turpeinen couldn’t start in the Final, so it was a strong five car affair with not much more to lose, and between cars going sideways and some bumping and wall riding, Eriksson was barely holding Enlund and Linnemann. The idea became undercutting Eriksson for the three on the pursuit, and Linnemann hit the jackpot with minimum clean air time once the Olsbergs MSE driver went to the Joker, and even if Eriksson went for a precise run in the final laps, the FC2 couldn’t reach Linnemann as he was doing the same with better pace.
