World RX trades Australia for China, at least in 2024

The FIA World Rallycross Championship still had a part of the 2024 calendar to ba taken care of, and with the Australian plan not going any further this year, the competition changes their sights to China as the Asian continent continues its stay in the schedule, though via different circumstances.

The 2023 season saw the World RX revisit Africa and go to the Far East for the first time ever, with Killarney hosting the Cape Town RX while a street circuit hosted the Hong Kong RX, with both events being run as double headers, with the ZEROID X1 RX2e being used for all teams as the RX1e were suspended from use due to the incidents at Lydden Hill.

The 2024 season counted with neither of them, even when the Hong Kong RX is deemed as a success by the organization, and the initial plan was to put the season finale at an unconfirmed venue in Australia, but with the negotiations not going any further and the talks with China showing a more pleasant conclusion, the Asian country takes over the slot as the fifth double header and final one on 19 and 20 October.

One thing that is noted in this change of venue and date is that the China round will a month before the date set for Australia, and with the Montalegre RX being confirmed to September, the thought is that China offers less of a logistical challenge for the whole World RX structure than Australia, even though the venue is also unconfirmed.

Despite the venue change, RX Promoter confirmed that negotiations stay in place to host an event in Australia in 2025, which confirms the desire for more than one overseas round. The Chinese round will have its circuit confirmed in the near future.

The World RX heads to Hungary later this month, as Nyirád hosts the second double header of the season on 27 and 28 July.
