Kristoffersson dominates the Sunday at Nyirád

Despite the early tumble showed in the Heats, Johan Kristoffersson proved that the Saturday at Nyirád was a mere incident and showed almost everything up the sleeve to get back to winning ways in the FIA World Rallycross Championship.

With Heats 1 and 2 having the exact same grids, the drivers were leaving the attitudes talk for them, and most of it stood at Turn 1, and with Johan Kristoffersson, Niclas Grönholm, Timmy Hansen and Kevin Hansen meeting the barrier at different times, the order was so mixed up that it was hard to take conclusions for the Semifinals, with Klara Andersson scoring two wins while Jankó Wieszt kept the good form and ended in second, ahead of all crashed cars in the session.

Semifinal 1 had the Hansens and the CEDT PWRs together and was less chaotic, with Andersson leading the Hansens while Grönholm retired with a puncture. Anthony Pelfrene was too far back but could capitalize if one of the drivers ahead went too rough, but everybody kept it clean and Kevin Hansen passed Andersson once she went to the Joker while Timmy Hansen completed the list of qualified drivers for the Final.

On Semifinal 2 there was the KMS Polos near Wieszt, and the Hungarian tripped over Ole Christian Veiby before Turn 1, veering the GCK Megane to a violent head-on collision with the barrier that red flagged the race due to the damage left at the scene. The 3 car grid restarted and the KMS HORSE Polos went immediately ahead of René Münnich, and without any need to overstress the cars or to even battle for position, the order remained as it was.

The Final has KMS HORSE and Hansen WRXT together again, and with Andersson being pincered by Kristoffersson and Kevin Hansen, she couldn’t pass the Polo KMS 601 RX, and with a car in one piece, Kristoffersson was making massive gains on the rest of the field, and Johan leaving not even dust to the rest of the field, Andersson was fighting for second as Timmy failed to pass and Veiby  undercut them in the Joker. For Kristoffersson, it was only a matter of bringing the car home for the win and Veiby had the second place certain as Andersson went the extra mile to defend herself from the Hansen WRXT Peugeots to keep the third place.
