2025 GT World Challenge calendars presented at Spa-Francorchamps

It’s the middle of 2024, and so the halfway mark for most FANATEC GT World Challenge series, but SRO as always laid out the plans for 2025 in advance, with significant changes in practically all fronts, be them venue switches or date adjustments.

The 10-race European calendar will keep Paul Ricard as the opening round with the new 3 hour format in place of the 1000km one, which was used this year as Monza was in a renovation process, which threw the Italian Endurance Cup race to September. While Monza remains for 2025, it will act as the fourth round of the overall schedule, right before the 24 Hours of Spa in early June.

Valencia and Zandvoort are brought back in place of Hockenheim and Magny-Cours, with both circuits returning only a single year of absence, with Magny-Cours departing after 3 years in the GTWC Europe calendar while Hockenheim had only two after being used for the FANATEC GT2 European Series. Jeddah remains the only doubt in the calendar as Stéphane Ratel explained that the continuation of the Jeddah 1000 would be dependant of success being shown in the 2024 edition.

The American calendar remains with six sprint double headers and the Indianapolis 8 Hour as the endurance race. No venue changes here, so only dates were changed, which means the order will be slightly different from 2024.

In the Asian market, SRO is trying again to make the trip to Indonesia happen, after failing to do so due to the condition of the Mandalika Circuit in 2022 not meeting the standards required. Outside this, the idea is to detach GTWC Asia more from the FANATEC Japan Cup and visit more countries, and while the count is kept to six events, it will be added an extra country to make it five, as Indonesia joins Malaysia, Thailand, Japan and China.

No dates were confirmed for any of the rounds, but special attention should go to the fact that a second event in Japan doesn’t have a confirmed venue, which keeps the possibility open for the returning Suzuka 1000km to count for the series or for other track to be used in conjunction with the Japan Cup. The season finale in China is also under negotiation, which also means a return to the renewed Shanghai International Circuit is also not confirmed, with further news coming soon.

The Australian series still has a void to fill, but Bathurst is a visible absence as both the 12 Hour and the Bathurst International aren’t present in the calendar, which delivers Mount Panorama to the Intercontinental GT Challenge only. Phillip Island also loses the extra GT Festival round.

The remaining circuits of the 2024 calendar stay in the 2025 schedule with different dates, but the season finale will mark an addition to the series as the visit to Hampton Downs will be the first to New Zealand under the current SRO administration and in the GTWC era, as it used to be part of the Australian GT Championship from 2016 to 2018. At the current state of the calendar, Hampton Downs will also be the season finale for the global series, emcomprising the four series to give points to the manufacturers that have entered in any of the competitions.
