It was a Kristoffersson show in the RallyX Nordic at Tierp

The 2024 RallyX Nordic season opened the rallycross season at the Tierp Arena, and in what was once the place to decide titles, Johan Kristoffersson made sure to everybody around how capable he is to go straight to the fourth title with his new Volkswagen Polo RX.

Despite the field being mostly renewed as talent from the Supercar Lites class emerged to the Open 4WD, be it Pro or Am, the expected competitive debut of the FirstCorner FC2s didn`t happen, as the six units present at the Tierp Arena were used for testing before they are sent to the United States to become part of the Nitrocross schedule in a new class that will debut next season.

In a change of pace that RallyX Nordic was eager to test, the Tierp RallyX Stage rallysprint that usually opens the weekend was incorporated into the RallyX Nordic calendar as an opening event, with a section crafted in the Tierp Arena and split into two halves for the Qualifying, which were used as one again for the Final phase. Johan Kristoffersson carried not only the speed but also the consistency from the Qualifying into the Semifinal and the Final, comfortably winning the event over Ole Christian Veiby and Filip Martinsson.

Going to the real rallycross on Saturday, Kristoffersson Motorsport debuted took the time to debut their newly built Volkswagen Polo RX, the KMS 601 RX, which is based on details they got from their supercar and RX1e programs to combine in a new supercar, and Johan Kristoffersson stood at the top of the game for the whole Qualifying, not even giving a hint of a chance to the competition with three wins. Ole Christian Veiby had a slow start in the second Polo RX, but two second place finishes in Q2 and Q3 brought back the form and the Norwegian ended in fourth, behind Joni Turpeinen and Martin Enlund.

Semifinal 1 had Kristoffersson doing the basic at the start, which was pulling away and winning the advantage before the first braking zone. From Turn 1 on Lap 1 onwards, it was simply management mode for Kristoffersson and for Maiko Tamm, who came in second, while Filip Thorén narrowly beating Daniel Thorén.

In a Semifinal 2 with less cars due to absences of Jens Hvaal and Frank Valle, Veiby got a dominant run too, even though Turpeinen did his best to stay following Veiby from start to finish, while FIA RX2e contender Isak Sjökvist kept the Zeroid X1 comfortably in third as Filip Martinsson did his best to follow the Swede, but his Renault Megane RX eventually succumbed to problems with 2 laps to go.

In the Open 4WD Am Final, Turpeinen outpaced Enlund before the first corner, only to be thrown back to second in the first chicane, and then Turpeinen stood all over Enlund’s back wing to find a way past, but a left rear puncture on Lap 4 took him off the fight for the win and also allowed Sjökvist to get second place. Enlund had no problems to keep the win despite a destroyed right rear suspension, the battered Ford Fiesta RX of Turpeinen barely held Martinsson for second place.

Going to the Open 4WD Pro Final, the KMS Polos were controlling the front row, and while Kristoffersson got away with the lead, Veiby was saved by the Polo RX’s acceleration from the clutches of Maiko Tamm. Thorén displaced Tamm out of the podium until the Joker Lap came, when the positions came back to their previous state. Kristoffersson marched right to the win, but the checkered flag saved him of dealing with a late left front puncture, which brought Veiby closer, while Tamm had a clear way to third place.
