DXDT Corvette conquers COTA in GTWC America

The FANATEC GT World Challenge America weekend at the Circuit of the Americas saw a grid with some welcome additions, in which was included the second Corvette Z06 GT3.R from DXDT Racing, and this No. 63 car, driven by Alec Udell and Tommy Milner, stole the spotlight in both races and swoop the weekend in Texas.

Race 1 had the surprising pole position of the No. 88 AF Corse Ferrari, with Ricardo Agostini being saved at the start as his understeer into Turn 1 was followed by the No. 91 Regulator Mercedes being turned into the opposite direction, which promoted the No. 28 ST Racing BMW to second and to the lead in the Pro Cup.

DXDT Racing having a second Corvette Z06 GT3.R soon started to pay off as Alec Udell made sure the No. 63 car was all over the mirrors of the No. 28 despite the pressure from the No. 38 ST Racing BMW right behind, and in 15 minutes, Udell was able to put the No. 63 ahead of the BMWs.

A difficult pit stop slowed down the No. 88, allowing the No. 63 to close down really fast, with Custódio Toledo totally unable to do anything against a charging Tommy Milner, who had the overall and Pro Cup leads with 30 minutes to go and no threats around. Toledo would eventually lose the Pro-Am Cup lead to Neil Verhagen in the No. 38, and since the No. 85 RS1 Porsche also passed the No. 88, the Ferrari was barely holding the Pro-Am Cup podium in the final part of the race.

The No. 63 DXDT Corvette would face no problems until crossing the finish line, while the No. 38 ST Racing BMW eventually settled for the second place overall as it had the Pro-Am Cup win.

BMW was monopolizing the front row in Race 2 with the No. 38 ST Racing car having the No. 29 Turner BMW alongside, but Robby Foley didn’t want to keep trailing Neil Verhagen and passed for the lead, leaving the No. 38 as prey for the No. 04 Crowdstrike Mercedes that was right behind the BMWs.

Once the cars had their driver switches in the pit window, the tide turned in favor of the No. 38 as Samantha Tan was faster than Justin Rothberg, and with the Pro Cup leaders eventually passing the No. 29, the overall lead was in Tan’s hands with the No. 38. Behind her, after a lot of pressure applied, the No. 63 DXDT Corvette finally passed the No. 120 Wright Porsche, with Alec Udell still having pace to spare to chase Tan to get a shot at the overall lead despite still having Adam Adelson in his back wing.

With Tan having the Pro-Am Cup top spot for the No. 38 ST Racing BMW, Udell had no problems to put the No. 63 DXDT Corvette in the overall lead, and with the No. 120 staying stuck behind the No. 38 until the last 3 minutes of racing, Udell just had to bring it home to complete the DXDT sweep.
