WRT gets ready for GTWC Europe season

Amid the announcements that WRT made for the FIA WEC season, the FANATEC GT World Challenge Europe is showing signs that it won’t go down a single bit despite the new adventure that will involve prototype and GT programs in the globetrotting championship, keeping the multi-car fleet in the SRO competition that became a tradition for the Belgian squad.

According to the statement released by WRT, the team will have four BMW M4 GT3s for most of the Sprint Cup season, while the Endurance Cup lineup will feature three cars, with still some predominance in the Pro Cup despite the class changes.

In the Sprint Cup, half of the fleet keeps their lineups, with 2023 third placed finishers Charles Weerts and Dries Vanthoor going for another season together in the No. 32 entry, while the No. 46 car retains Valentino Rossi and Maxime Martin, although this second car is confirmed for the Brands Hatch and Misano rounds as it is.

The No. 30 car goes from the Gold Cup to the Silver Cup as Callan Williams is retained but gains the company of Sam de Haan replaces Niklas Krütten, and the No. 31 car remains a complete question mark with no drivers or class confirmed, although this car has a lineup set for the FIA WEC LMGT3 class as Augusto Farfus, Sean Gelael and Darren Leung are confirmed.

For the trio that will race in the Endurance Cup, the No. 32 car also retains Sheldon van der Linde to add to the Weerts-Vanthoor duo. The No. 46 car has the most highlighted change in lineup, as the Rossi-Martin duo gains the company of current GTWC Europe Endurance Cup champion Raffaele Marciello, as he moved at the end of 2023 from Mercedes to BMW and will be part of the FIA WEC Hypercar program, with GTWC Europe, IGTC and British GT being the GT portion of Marciello’s schedule.

The No. 30 car will have a complete overhaul, going down from the Gold Cup to the Bronze Cup, as Sam de Haan will have the company of Jens Klingmann and Ahmad Al Harthy.

Test days for the 2024 GTWC Europe season will be held in a month on 5-6 March at Paul Ricard, which also hosts the season opener a month after the tests on 7 April, which opens the Endurance Cup, with the Sprint Cup opening set for Brands Hatch on 4-5 May.
