Racers Edge dominates GT World Challenge America weekend at Road America

Racers Edge Motorsport
was king at the Road America weekend of the GT World Challenge America powered by AWS, conquering both races with no major troubles for Shelby Blackstock and Trent Hindman in the No. 93 Acura NSX GT3 Evo.

Race 1 start had a Silver Cup front row for the first as the No. 33 Winward Mercedes outpacing the No. 93 Racers Edge Acura, though Shelby Blackstock was quick to claim the position at the start before the first caution comes out, as the pair of DXDT Mercedes had contact at Turn 1, with the No. 63 coming back to the pits while the No. 04 got stuck in the gravel after a rear end crash into the barriers.

With Blackstock beating the clock as time passed, Indy Dontje was struggling to just keep track of the No. 93 Racers Edge Acura, so the hope was in better pitwork to overcome the disadvantage, though even with a slight loss of time, the No. 93 was reigning over the field, with a bigger gap to the No. 33 Winward Mercedes than before the pits.

Russell Ward wasn’t able to even threat Trent Hindman in the final 40 minutes of racing, so the No. 93 won by a considerable margin. The No. 20 Wright Porsche got the final spot in the overall podium and the Am Cup win while the No. 1 TR3 Ferrari got the Pro-Am with no problems in fourth place overall.

In Race 2 the No. 93 Racers Edge Acura claimed the top spot in short notice from the No. 63 DXDT Mercedes, and with the No. 33 Winward Mercedes stuck in between the Pro-Am Cup field, it was open way for the leader to build a margin.

Trent Hindman wasn’t threatened before the pit stops, specially because the No. 20 Wright Porsche was almost falling prey of the pair of DXDT Mercedes. After the pits the situation hasn’t changed, but the No. 20 had the Mercedes almost in its back wing, with a slight relief coming when the No. 33 Winward Mercedes joined the battle for second as disturbed the pace of the DXDT machines.

The following moments were with Fred Poordad having to go the extra mile to hold the Mercedes train behind him, in special Indy Dontje in the No. 33 as he was trying to take advantage of more pace and brake challenges. Once Dontje was able to disrupt Poordad’s line, it was door open for those behind to pounce, losing three positions with 20 minutes to go. The No. 1 TR3 Ferrari also found a way past the No. 20 but it was simply too late to go after the Pro-Am Cup win.

The final minutes weren’t enough for Indy Dontje to try to reach Shelby Blackstock, so the huge advantage of the No. 93 Racers Edge Acura was enough to secure the clean sweep at Road America, while DXDT Racing had a 1-2 in the Pro-Am Cup with the No. 04 ahead of the No. 63, compensating for the disastrous Saturday.
