AKKA-ASP prevails in close Race 2 at Misano

It was a tight contest in the second race of the GT World Challenge Europe at Misano, and the No. 88 AKKA-ASP Mercedes AMG GT3 came out on top under the Italian sunny morning, with Raffaele Marcielo and Timur Boguslavskiy bravely holding the opposition that gave them no time to breathe.

The No. 88 AKKA-ASP Mercedes started holding its lead while the No. 31 WRT Audi was busy with the No. 163 Emil Frey Lamborghini in its back wing. While the No. 26 Sainteloc Audi was comfortable in the Silver Cup lead, the No. 93 Tempesta Ferrari was holding the Pro-Am Cup lead against the No. 52 AF Corse Ferrari.

With 15 minutes of racing, Benjamin Hites and the No. 89 AKKA-ASP Mercedes found the way to the barriers in a big shunt, which brought the yellow flag to the track, which switched to a Safety Car entry as the rescue process took longer time to be completed, though it took less than 10 minutes to get done.

AKKA-ASP and WRT decided to make the pit work as early as possible while the No. 163 Emil Frey Lamborghini carried on so Albert Costa could get an extra drive time before leaving to Giacomo Altoé, but it came to no benefit of the Swiss team, meaning that the No. 88 was back in the lead with the No. 31 in chase.

Despite being initially struggling, Ryuichiro Tomita was actually gaining with the No. 31 WRT Audi over Timur Boguslavskiy in the No. 88 AKKA-ASP, all while Luca Stolz in the No. 4 HRT Mercedes was trying to come into the leading pack.

Stolz’s luck turned for the better when Tomita overcooked it in the final corner with seven minutes to go, so the No. 4 could take second place, but while having the pace advantage, it wasn’t on a level that would threat the lead and win of the No. 89 AKKA-ASP Mercedes.
