ESMotorsport will have its third driver change in the 2019 FIA World Rallycross Championship season, with their new Skoda Fabia RX being passed to the hands of autocross young ace Matvey Furazhkin from Russia.
In a brief statement on social media, the Lithuanian team confirmed 19-years old Furazhkin for the Lohéac RX, in place of rallycross debutant and ESMotorsport test driver Kevin Abbring, as calendar clashes will see the Dutchman miss the rest of the season.
Furazhkin isn’t jumping into the mighty supercar class without credentials despite his young age, as he was the 2017 FIA European Autocross Championship SuperBuggy runner-up and is currently leading the Touring Autocross class with a six win streak out of six rounds done.
The seat that Furazhkin will occupy was initially with Super 1600 ace Rokas Baciuska, but he moved away from it to drive for GCK, so François Duval drove the Skoda in Belgium. After that, Kevin Abbring made his competitive rallycross debut and impressed quite a lot by having the best results of the team, a pair of fourth place finishes in Hell and Höljes.
It is unconfirmed who will drive the Skoda for the next rounds, though according to Team Manager Robertas Maneikis, Kevin Abbring will be the driver for the Cape Town RX.
The Lohéac RX will be held August 31st, being the first round of the final European leg of the competition.
