Oliver Eriksson gets RallyX On Ice title at Gol

While things were really tight on track for the RallyX On Ice title contenders, Oliver Eriksson lifted the title with some remarkable drives, mostly staying out of trouble in all points of the Gol circuit in Norway.

The intermediate heats were dominated by Alexander Westlund with three flawless wins, with Sondre Evjen coming in second and acquiring some good advantage in the title race. This was also the rallycross debut for IMSA driver Helio Castroneves, who basically spent the weekend getting the hang of rallycross driving and enjoyed his time in the new environment as he mentioned that it was incredibly different that what he drove in his whole career.

In the Semifinal 1 Alexander Westlund defended his lead from an all-out charge from Cyril Raymond and Conner Martell while Nathan Heathcote saw the snowbanks before the first corner due to contact. The situation was kept until the finish and while Westlund decided to take some risky moves, a tidy run did the trick, while some moments of overdriving almost left Martell out of the final.

Kevin Eriksson got the upper hand in the Semifinal 2 while Sondre Evjen threw his advantage away with a bad start and got stuck in fifth place. Eriksson had the situation controlled all the time, way ahead of Cole Keatts and Alexander Lie, and while Evjen still got third place from a mistake from Lie, it was to late to battle with Keatts for second.

The Semifinal 3 could settle the title for Oliver Eriksson, and he delivered a rocket start and stayed away from the clutches of Vasily Gryazin. A mistake from Gryazin in the final lap not only let Eriksson in a comfortable position for his victory but also opened the way for Jimmie Walfridsson to go past, take second place and advance to the final.

The initial dash would decide the final and Cole Keatts almost climbed the whole grid until he was left in the outside of the first corner by Oliver Eriksson, who then had to worry with Alexander Westlund as pressure was rising. A clean run and superb control where it mattered gave the victory for Oliver Eriksson, as a late move by Westlund made them bump panels, and while Westlund was in the inside line, he couldn’t get the car straight and got stuck in the snowbanks.

Oliver Eriksson was crowned champion with 139 points against 123 from his brother Kevin, while local hero Sondre Evjen had to settle for third with 117 points.
