After a period of uncertainty towards
the open slot in the FIA World Endurance Championship
calendar, Silverstone will stay as one of the venues of the
competition, but in a later date than the usual according with the
latest schedule released for the 2018/2019 season.
Several possibilities were considered
since the slot reserved to February was moved to August and even
before that, but after consultations with competitors and fans, even
with a global online survey, it was decided that United Kingdom will
stay in the route for the transitional season, being it the fourth
round, right after the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans, on August 19th.
In all seasons but one, being this the
initial one in 2012, the FIA WEC started at Silverstone, and the mid
to late April date, barely leaving the winter behind, had quite an
influence in the weather, and although mostly clear, it can be
unpredictable and sometimes extreme as a case of hail and snow near
the race date was in its history, but specially cold, so the race in
August means warmer temperatures that benefits both fans and
competitors.
Outside the changes coming for the 6
Hours of Silverstone, the previously announced calendar remains
at it is.
