Toyota is facing its third
lineup change in the 2017 season of the FIA World Endurance
Championship as Stéphane Sarrazin will replace Anthony
Davidson in the No. 8 Toyota TS050 Hybrid, as the French super
sub will hold the highlight of having driven all the LMP1
Toyotas during this season.
It was mentioned that Davidson is set
to miss the 6 Hours of the Circuit of the Americas due to personal
reasons with no further explanation being offered. Sarrazin will
align with Sébastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima with an important
responsibility in the hands of the Frenchman as the lineup of the No.
8 Toyota has to turn around a 41-point deficit to the crew of the No.
2 Porsche, adding to this that the current FIA WEC leader has won the
last three races including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, while the first
two rounds were won by the car where Sarrazin will be in.
Both Toyotas come from a hugely
disappointing 6 Hours of Mexico, where Porsche made a 1-2 at Hermanos
Rodriguez, being constantly faster that the Japanese team and being a
lap ahead of them, even though the German faced some minor troubles
to the end of the race.
Sarrazin has focused his efforts in
Formula E and his full time campaign with Venturi, but outside this
he has been quite a multi-task man this year, with Toyota's duties, a
race in the IMSA WeatherTech SPortscar Championship and a
participation in the World Rally Championship, and add to this the
time spent on Sarrazin Motorsports, specially with the team set to
enter into sportscar racing in the Asian Le Mans Series.
The 6 Hours of the Circuit of the
Americas will be held next Saturday on September 16th.
