Currently the Jackie Chan DC Racing
squad is one of the strongest ones of the Asian Le Mans Series,
and this fame also expanded to the world stage as it is also one of
the major forces in the FIA World Endurance Championship. To
reaffirm their commitment with the series where everything started,
the Chinese team along with JOTA Sport will bring a massive
two-class effort to the 2017/2018 season.
The increased effort will go to the
LMP2 class as two Oreca 05 models will be aligned along
with the same Ligier JS P3 in LMP3, a choice that
remains with the team since the start of the program in 2015, and out
is the open-top Oreca 03R, an overall race winner in 2015/2016 which
ended as a runner-up in the standings.
The team had their share of experience
in the Oreca 05 in 2016 when they competed in FIA WEC in the rebadged
Alpine A460 in partneship with the French manufacturer before they
seal the deal with JOTA Sport, and although completing most of the
races that season, they lacked the pace to fight in the top end of
the table like they are doing now, as Jackie Chan DC Racing leads the
LMP2 standings this season with three wins, including the one at the
24 Hours of Le Mans that was going to be an overall win until the
last hour.
According to David Cheng, driver and
team owner, the Asian Le Mans Series will be used as a test lab to
bring young talents to sport, which saw the results in the form of
the Frenchman Thomas Laurent. About the drivers, no announcement was
made, which leave them in the same situation of their class rivals,
as only a few names were confirmed.
The 2017/2018 Asian Le Mans Series
season starts on October 29th with the 4 Hours of Zhuhai
in China, with no class regulation changes and LMP2 sticking with the
previous spec prototypes.
