There was only one
car to beat the Audi
fleet from WRT
in Hungary this Sunday (29) in the Blancpain
GT Sprint Cup Main Race, but the No.
63 GRT Lamborghini wasn't able to break
the clean sweep of the No. 5 WRT Audi, with another dominant drive
from Dries Vanthoor
and Marcel Fässler.
Repeating what was
done Saturday, the No. 5 WRT Audi kept strong in the lead while the
No. 63 GRT Lamborghini and the No. 84
HTP Mercedes had their mirrors full
with the remaining WRT machines. While the action was kept clean in
the front, the middle of the pack justified the entry of the Safety
Car as the No. 42 Strakka McLaren spun and retired and the No. 88
AKKA-ASP was sent off the track by the No. 85 HTP Mercedes.
It took a gap in the
restart for the WRT attack to happen, and with all their attentions
on Franck Perera in the No. 84, Christian Engelhardt in the No. 63
was able to breathe for a while and rethink his tactics to pass the
No. 5, and despite employing big pressure, no gap for the move was
found so Engelhardt brought the No. 63 to the pit and lost position
to the No. 3 WRT Audi, which would open the door for further tactics
between the Belgian cars.
With the No. 84 down
in 7th
due to problems in the pits, the No. 63 GRT Lamborghini was stuck
alone into a WRT trap in third place, with the Nos. 5 & 3
securing the 1-2 while the Nos. 17 & 2 were coming right behind.
The last 20 minutes were
of intense pursuit from the No. 63, which held the gap to less than a
second, but the nature of the circuit and the similar paces of the
top-4 contenders nullified any opportunity to take the victory from
the No. 5 WRT Audi, which completed the Belgian sweep ar Hungary.
The Silver Cup was won
again by the No. 85 HTP Mercedes and the No. 333 Rinaldi Ferrari
added the Sunday win to its Saturday Pro-Am Cup achievement.
The Sprint Cup now
takes a two week break to return on September 16th
and 17th
with the final events at Nürburgring.
