Twisty circuits are the ones that suit
the Audi R8 LMS GT3 the most, and Marcel Fässler and
Dries Vanthoor proved that by not giving chance to the
powerful No. 63 GRT Lamborghini and bringing the win to the
No. 5 WRT car in the Blancpain GT Sprint Cup Qualifying
Race at Hungaroring this Saturday (26).
The green flag had Mirko Bortolotti in
the No. 63 GRT Lamborghini going into attack mode on Dries Vanthoor
in the No. 5 WRT Audi, but the tight nature of the circuit favored
the Belgian car as overtaking possibilities were practically null
without barging in your way. The race then started to settle down and
the young Vanthoor kept going faster and faster, opening the gap by a
few tenths per lap.
To not say things didn't change during
the pit window, the No. 84 HTP Mercedes gained territory over the No.
17 WRT Audi, jumping then to fourth place. Unlike the Pros, the
Pro-Am Cup was having a big scrap between the No. 87 AKKA-ASP
Mercedes and the No. 333 Rinaldi Ferrari, with the No. 333 finding
class lead in an overtake at Turn 2 with 20 minutes to go while
racing in the middle of the Pro Cup cars. While the No. 333 kept in
his own race, the No. 87 was punted in the back by the No. 74 ISR
Audi, and Frank Stippler was properly penalized after the contact.
Although the gap between the leading
No. 5 and the No. 63 was short, always around the 2 second mark,
Christian Engelhardt didn't have the pace to turn things around, só
it was an open road for Marcel Fässler to win the race after 34
laps. The No. 333 Rinaldi Ferrari took a commanding Pro-Am Cup win
and the No. 85 HTP Mercedes took Silver Cup honors.
