In the wave of wildcard entries that
saw Nico Müller being called by EKS for the Lohéac round of the FIA
World Rallycross Championship, PSRX Volkswagen decided to
bring their extra entry for the Estering round in Germany as Dieter
Depping will get the wheel of the third Polo GTI RX.
The 51-year old German has his laurels
in rallying with three titles in the national championship in the 90s
before going total Volkswagen in the 2000s, with participations in
the 24 Hours of Nürburgring along with Rally Dakar in the mighty
Touareg as well the extensive testing of the multiple WRC champion
Volkswagen Polo R WRC. Curiously the current Polos from PSRX
Volkswagen are based on the old Polos from WRC, pretty much in the
same manner of what JRM made with the Mini Countryman WRC cars
acquired from Prodrive, but in a factory level.
This entry is in fact a present to
Depping for all the work done for Volkswagen Motorsport during all
these years according to the director Sven Smeets, and Depping said
in interview that the yes was immediate once he was invited to do
this, and that he will start the tests as soon as possible.
The PSRX Volkswagen Polos are the cars
to beat this season, leading in both drivers and teams standings and
with five wins spread between Johan Kristoffersson and Petter
Solberg, with two of them being 1-2 finishes and the most recent of
them being in Canada.
The Estering RX will be held on October
1st, and the next World RX event is the Lohéac RX on
September 3rd.
