CarGuy Racing
is quite a new team in the GT scene but has an experienced lineup in
Kei Cozzolino
and Naoki Yokomizo,
who were responsible for the young team's first win in the Blancpain
GT Series Asia in the Race 1 at Fuji
Speedway, holding pressure from CRAFT
Bamboo Racing, GruppeM
Racing and a bit more.
Once the green came
out after an extra warm-up lap the polesitter No. 88 CRAFT Bamboo
Porsche tried to block the way into Turn 1, only to the moved out of
the way by a wave of cars, leaving the No. 777 CarGuy Lamborghini in
the lead with Kei Cozzolino at the wheel. It was a Lamborghini 1-2 as
the No. 66 VSR Lamborghini
was in second, followed by another Porsche, being this the No. 3 EBI
car, holding the No. 1 FFF Lamborghini.
With the exception of the
No. 66, the top group tried to maximize its track time before the pit
stops, and even a late entrance by the No. 3 and the No. 88 weren't
enough to change the lead away from the No. 777. The ones which
capitalized the most out of the pit window were the second-placed No.
88 CRAFT Bamboo Porsche and the fourth-placed No. 37 BBT Audi.
The No. 777 was keeping
the No. 88 at bay lapping similar times until the 10 minutes to go,
when Maximilian Buhk started a tremendous charge in the No. 999
GruppeM Mercedes, lapping around a second better than the leaders and
overtaking the No. 66 VSR Lamborghini for third place. In fact second
and third were on a push to reach the leader, but traffic and time
were the factors that didn't help them, keeping the sight of the
checkered for the No. 777 CarGuy Lamborghini, although it was still a
close finish as the winning car was losing nearly a second to its
rivals.
Lamborghini also
took Am Cup honors with the No. 27 X-One Lamborghini, while in GT4
the newcomer No. 12 Clearwater McLaren
did a dominant race and won with a good margin to the leading car
until the moment, the No. 77 CRAFT Bamboo Porsche.
