The influx of new
teams in the LMP2 class
continues, with an ambitious effort from Netherlands to race in the
European Le Mans Series
next year, with Jan Lammers
and Rubens Barrichello
leading it.
The new outfit will
be known as Racing Team Nederland
and the chosen car for the task will be the new and unnamed Dallara
LMP2, which was already tested in the
Magny-Cours circuit in France. Alongside Lammers and Barrichello will
be Frits van Eerd, owner of the JUMBO supermarket brand that will
sponsor the new team, completing the lineup. Along with the ELMS full
season, the Dutch outfit will try to get an invite to the 24 Hours of
Le Mans.
Lammers and van Eerd
come from a 2016 season spent with a Ligier
JS P3 machine in the Dutch
Supercar Challenge with DayVTec,
which won two races this season in the national championship. Lammers
also had a participation in the same machine in the Road to Le Mans
race at La Sarthe. For Barrichello, it will be another different kind
of machinery to learn about as the Brazilian has no LMP experience,
with the closest to it being his participations in Daytona Prototypes
in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, being close to
victory in the 24 Hours of Daytona this year with Wayne Taylor
Racing.
Support for the
effort will be given by the same DayVTec team where Lammers and van
Eerd competed this year.
