2016 seems to be the
turnaround year for Porsche
when it comes to branding in racing games. After long years of an
exclusivity contract with Eletronic Arts, the manufacturer from
Stuttgart was finally able to expand its reach to other titles, and
Assetto Corsa
will be one of them.
KUNOS Simulazioni
staff announced last Friday (17) that Porsche will come with a good
part of its history to the Italian racing simulator in two DLC
packages for all platforms where Assetto Corsa is or will be present.
There isn’t a confirmed list of models in the moment but we may
expect classic machines like the 917K and the 911 GT1, as well some
modern icons like the 918, the 911 RS and hope for models like the
911 GT3 Cup and the Le Mans winning 919 Hybrid, or at least is what
the presentation video of the deal shows.
In fact Porsche was
already present in another title this year as a pack became part of
Forza Motorsport 6
on Xbox One, and eventually this can be played in a different
perspective as Assetto Corsa will also be on Xbox One as well on
Playstation 4, which release was delayed probably to add the items of
the new packs or any other adjustments. To the PC sim
racers, it was an eternal wait, as the last title with licensed
Porsches was GTR2
from SimBin Studios,
already a ten years old title but still with its legion of fans.
About the
announcement, Marco Massarutto
from KUNOS Simulazioni declared: “I
can’t describe how proud we are about this partnership with
Porsche, and how exciting it is to bring back the Brand in the
simracing world. This Fall, Assetto Corsa will be the only
multi-platform title to have the Porsche brand in a genuine racing
simulation. The gamers, and our fans really want to have the chance
to DRIVE the Porsche cars in a realistic manner. it’s a privilege,
and a big responsability for us. We are working closely with Porsche
with the aim to reproduce each single model with the maximum
accuracy, and the fact that the same simulation will be used at
Porsche race centers will push our team even more to provide the best
Porsche virtual experience ever.”
While no certain
date was given, the release of the Porsche DLC pack was confirmed to
this Autumn.
