Asian Le Mans Series boss Cyrille Taesch-Wahlen stated that even though the very first race
of the 2015-2016 season started with a 13 car grid, which is somewhat
reasonable for the series’ standards, new teams and cars would join for the
other rounds. In fact, the grid boost started early, with a new team already
confirmed for the next race.
Atlantic Racing Team returns to the series as well the Wolf GB08 model that they will use in
the CN category, after their single
race participation at the 3 Hours of Inje in 2014, on South Korea, where the
team in fact participated from the practice session, but the combination of a
crash with the Chinese Python Ferrari 458, gearbox damage and lack of spare
parts meant the Canadian team had to pull out of the race, which had only six
cars in the grid. The rest of the championship featured a Wolf GB08, but the car
was raced under the Team Avelon Formula banner.
Differently
from their first participation in the AsLMS,
where Atlantic Racing Team’s opposition was only a Ligier JS53 from
CRAFT-Bamboo Racing, fierce competitors will feature the group of LMP3 cars that entered in the 2 Hours
of Fuji, as the new class has a somewhat similar pace compared to the CN class
cars. DC Racing has the Cheng/Tung duo on his favor as well the stable Ligier
JS P3, and the experience of the Team AAI would let them make a turnaround with
their pair of ADESS 03 models, after finding pace but facing a lot of problems
in their cars.
At the
moment, Atlantic Racing Team has only one driver confirmed for their effort, as
the Malaysian GT driver Zen Low waiting for the confirmation of the other two
drivers who will drive the car. Low will split himself between his current GT
Asia assault with his commitments with AsLMS.
