The 2015 had a lot of debuts in the FIA World Rallycross Championship, but every other car that can join the game is obviously welcome, and not only a new car will come to race, as well a new manufacturer, both with a well-known face in the world of off-road racing.
Italian
driver Gigi Galli is a driver known
because of his spell in the FIA World
Rally Championship, with two podiums on it, and his videos have some
success, especially the one where he drifts a Mitsubishi Lancer way ahead of a sharp turn and just keeps it going
with total success. Last year he drove an Olsbergs
MSE Ford Fiesta ST in the World RX of Italy event at Franciacorta, reaching
the semifinals. He will be another driver with WRC background in the World
RX scenario, such as the likes of JRM’s Guy Wilks and Guerlain Chicherit,
Austrian Manfred Stohl, Swede PG Andersson and the current world champion Petter Solberg.
The machine
of choice will be a Kia Rio RX,
which is the third Asian-based machine in World RX, as well the second one from
a South Korean manufacturer. At the moment, all the images of the car are just
renderings, and the official presentation of the Gigi Galli World RX Team will
occur on September 25th, with the first competitive laps of the new
car set to be at the same Franciacorta circuit where Galli debuted in the
competition, on October 17th. It will be the fourth car to make its
first race in World RX this year, after the full-season campaign of the Mini Countryman RX models prepared by JRM, and the part-time participations
of the Eklund Motorsport’s Volkswagen
Beetle RX and the Volkswagen
Scirocco RX.
It is still
unclear whether this will be a one-shot for Gigi Galli, or a trigger for
testing ahead of a possible full-season campaign in 2016, as well the detailed
specs of the Kia Rio RX, but the doubts are expected to be solved once the team
presentation is made.
