And now the
reigning (and car jumping) world champion will combine forces with the British
bomb, as Petter Solberg and Liam Doran will form the SDRX team to contest in the 2015 season
of the FIA World Rallycross Championship.
The move
seems pretty understandable for both parts. Even though 2014 Wolrd RX champion Solberg won five
races and achieved eight podiums throughout the season, there wasn’t a capable
full season driver as his team-mate, as different guys took the second Citroën DS3 RX over the year, and the
best result achieved was a ninth place. Solberg couldn’t carry the PSRX team entirely
on his back, and even though he got the drivers title, PSRX was only fourth in the teams’ championship, conquered by Olsbergs MSE.
Doran had a
troubled 2014 season, as his privately entered car gave him lots of headache
with lots of problems, as well having his license suspended for five races. But
when Doran was on track and without any problems, he proved to be a pretty
serious contender, as he achieved a fifth place at the Sweden RX event as his
highest finish. The idea this year is not only to be Solberg’s team-mate, is to
be a serious contender for the title if possible.
Even though
Solberg and Doran will be racing under the same team, preparation of the
Citroën DS3s will remain at distinct places, as Solberg’s car will depart from
Sweden, while Doran’s car will come from the United Kingdom.
